When you arrive

At the initial visit you will come to the center’s walk-in-clinic on the second floor of 1700 North Broad Street.  The walk-in-clinic is designed to provide daily access, from Monday through Friday, to start the counseling process.  The hours of the walk-in-clinic are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10am to 1:30pm, and Wednesday from 9am to 12pm.  During fall and spring semester the walk-in-clinic is also open on Saturday morning from 9am to 12 noon.

It is best to plan to spend an hour to an hour and a half at the center when you come to walk-in-clinic. During your stay you will register on a dedicated computer in a dedicated section of the waiting area (this takes about 20 minutes), and then you will speak to a counselor (this interview takes about 20 to 30 minutes).

There may be a wait for a registration computer or to see a walk-in-clinic counselor depending on how many other students come in at the same time on that day.  This is normal in a large counseling center at a large university throughout the fall and spring semesters.

Rest assured that you will be seen as soon as possible.  At that first meeting, the walk-in-clinic counselor will assign you to the counselor who will provide treatment, and will work with you to schedule the date and time of an intake appointment with your assigned counselor.

You may also be scheduled to meet with one of our psychiatrists if medication may be needed.  Meeting with a psychiatrist can only occur after registering and meeting with one of our walk in clinic counselors.

Sometimes a referral is given to an on-campus resource or to mental health resources outside the university.  In these cases, your counselor will discuss with you the need for the referral and will help to make the referral successful or schedule a meeting with the TCS referral coordinator to assist you.

If you have any questions throughout the process, please feel free to ask any of the staff for clarification.  We look forward to working with you.
