RESILIENCY RESOURCE CENTER
The Resiliency Resource Center offers resources for Temple students who are both new to Tuttleman Counseling Services and to those who are in therapy and wish to build on skills that they have begun to develop in their individual or group therapy. Resources include on-line materials (i.e. Headspace, MUSE, VIA Character Strengths), workbooks, meditation and relaxation exercises, biofeedback and bright light therapy among others. Undergraduate psychology, art therapy, and social work interns are available to assist with location and operation of materials.
The Resiliency Resource Center (RRC) offers resources for Temple Students who have registered with Tuttleman Counseling Services (TCS). Once referred by a TCS clinician, students can access the RRC as direct service or an adjunct resouce to their current individual or group therapy.
The RRC is a physical space inside of TCS that serves as a mental health library, including books, workbooks, biofeedback devices, bright light therapy, cranial electrotherapy stimulation, massage chairs, therapeutic art making resources, workshops and groups.
Students can take a RRC T.O.U.R. as an orientation to the space and its resources while giving them a chance to "Try Out Useful Resources." For a quick view of the space check out the TCS instagram page here: https://www.instagram.com/temple_counseling/reel/DH3dLCTsL5c/
FAQs
Do I need to be in therapy to access the RRC?
No, however, students do need to be registered with TCS and referred to the RRC. In the registration process students can discuss next steps for services they want to access. Some students engage in individual or group therapy, psychiatry, or may even have their own therapist outside of TCS. Whether in therapy or not, students can use the RRC to help work toward some of their mental health goals or be a complimentary service to therapy.
When can it be accessed?
Students can access the RRC during the Fall and Spring semesters, Monday through Friday 9am-4pm. After students have a Consultation or RRC T.O.U.R., they can schedule Visits to the RRC and use it throughout the semester.
Popular resources?
Recently, students have really been enjoying our full body massage chair (some use aromatherapy while relaxing). We have had some devices for over 10 years such as biofeedback, cranial electrotherapy stimulation, and bright light therapy. A popular device is the MUSE Brainsensing Headband that can help students improve their relationships to the mind, body, heart, and breath through various meditation trainings and biofeedback. Students also have been tapping into their creativity and stress management of the therapeutic art making spaces, resources and workships in the RRC.
What are RRC workshops?
The RRC workshops are one-on-one opportunities for students to engage with a Peer Resiliency Educator to learn, practice, and discuss some of the student-focused mental health presentations. The average time of a workshop is 30 minutes and students can schedule these any time while the RRC is open. We have some essential offerings that cover areas of mindfulness, stress-management, student success, personal growth, and clinically-focused workshops. Our most requested workshops include: Test Anxiety, Nurturing Your Inner Voice, Brain Food, Procrastination and Time Management, Grounding Techniques, Self-Love, and Finding Your Focus.
Who staffs the RRC?
Undergrdaute Psychology and Art Therapy students, known as Peer Resiliency Educators, are trained and available to assist with access and use of the resources and workshops in the RRC. They are supervised by the Assistant Coordinator and Coordinator of the RRC. TCS offers certain skill-based groups through the RRC which are facilitated by TCS clinicians.
*Students interested in the Peer Resiliency Educator internship can expect for applications to open for the Spring semesters in mid-September and for Fall Semesters in mid-February.
