Psychological Services
Iris Abreu, Ph.D.
Iris obtained her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the New School for Social Research (NSSR) located in New York, NY. She completed her pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral fellowship at Veterans Affairs (VA) Caribbean Healthcare System located in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She subsequently remained as a full-time staff member at this location proudly serving our veterans through the Returning Veterans Outreach, Education, and Care (RVOEC) program. As of December 2015, she feels honored to join the owl community and serve it through Tuttleman Counseling Services. Clinical areas of interest include health psychology (including, Complementary and Alternative Medicine), treatment of trauma, sleep disorders, psychotherapy research, ethnic/racial identity development, and cultural competency. She also offers psychotherapy services in Spanish.
Patria Alvelo, Psy.D.
Patria is part of the psychological services unit at TCS. Patria also works as the Diagnostician Supervisor at the Center for Psychotherapy Research at the University of Pennsylvania and is an adjunct professor at Widener University and the Philadelphia Center. Patria earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology at Widener University. Patria also holds a Master’s degree in Women’s History from Sarah Lawrence College as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. Patria has worked with adults, teens, children, and families in a variety of settings, including inpatient psychiatric units, college counseling centers, and outpatient behavioral health clinics. Patria’s specific areas of interest include women’s and gender issues, LGBTQ issues, ACOA, attachment, depression, anxiety, and recovery from trauma.
Kathleen Haughey, MSW, LCSW
Kate is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in PA and NJ. She has been part of Tuttleman Counseling Services in a part-time role since October of 2015. Starting August of 2017, Kate joined full time staff in the role of Referral Coordinator and counselor. She received her Bachelor's degree in Social Work from La Salle University and her Master's degree in Social Work from Widener University. Prior to joining Temple University, Kate worked at a partial hospitalization program that provided group therapy to young adults who were struggling with a range of mental health issues. Kate's clinical interests include mood and anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, and relationship issues. She has been intensively trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and uses this approach along with creating a warm and comfortable environment during treatment.
Michelle Wallace, Psy.D.
Michelle is a licensed staff psychologist and the Assistant Coordinator of Training at Tuttleman Counseling Services. In their training role, they facilitate programming for our practicum trainees: psychology students and social work interns. Michelle completed their training at the George Washington University (Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology), and has trained in community mental health, inpatient hospital, and college counseling settings. In 2016, they came to Tuttleman Counseling Services to complete their doctoral internship. They feel fortunate to have continued to work at Tuttleman in varying capacities. In their clinical work, Michelle draws from contemporary psychodynamic and relational approaches, always striving to emphasize dimensions of intersectionality. In addition to a passion for supervision and training, they enjoy working with and attending to: attachment dynamics, issues of power and privilege, gender and sexual diversity, family of origin concerns, and social belonging. In both supervision and therapy, Michelle works to establish a climate of warmth and curiosity, working collaboratively to develop goals and expectations.
Mona Sarshar, Ph.D.
Mona is a licensed psychologist at Tuttleman Counseling Services (TCS) dividing days between TCS and Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. She also worked as a Research Associate in the Department of Psychological Studies in Education in the College of Education at Temple University. Prior to TCS, Mona worked as a clinician at Elwyn Outpatient Clinic, a section of Elwyn, the nation’s second largest non-profit provider of educational, behavioral, cognitive and emotional health services, and family support services, to special needs individuals. Mona obtained her doctoral degree in School Psychology from Temple. She is specialized in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for depression and anxiety. In addition, she is involved in scholarly work as an associate editor, consulting editor, and peer reviewer, and has published in the professional literature. Some of her professional interests include providing counseling and psychotherapy in the areas of depression, anxiety, relational problems and personal growth and development as well as conducting psychoeducational assessments. Mona believes strongly in the importance of promoting positive mental health and supporting individuals for personal and social well-being.
Group Therapy Program
Katy Cording, Psy.D., CGP, Coordinator
Katy is a Staff Psychologist and the Group Coordinator at Tuttleman Counseling Services. She received a B.A. from Lafayette College in Psychology as well as Women’s and Gender Studies and her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from The George Washington University. Katy has been working in college counseling for several years, including at West Chester University, Swarthmore College, and Lehigh University. She most recently served as the Group Coordinator at West Chester University’s Counseling Center. She has received extensive training in conducting group psychotherapy and brings this passion for group to TCS. At the core of Katy’s therapeutic approach is the understanding that a trusting, open, and collaborative therapeutic relationship is essential to promoting and sustaining change. Some of her clinical interests include: Trauma, Attachment, Depression, Anxiety, Relational Concerns, Grief/Loss, Sexual Assault, Identity Formation, Life Transitions.
Michael Mangino, Psy.D., Assistant Coordinator
Michael is a Staff Psychologist and the Assistant Group Coordinator at Tuttleman Counseling Services. He received his B.A. in Psychology, with a minor in Gender Studies, from Loyola University Maryland and his M.S. and Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Long Island University. Michael has worked with university-age students for the majority of his clinical career and received training in community mental health, medical hospital, and college counseling settings. He completed his doctoral internship at Tuttleman Counseling Services in 2020 and received post-doctoral training at the center prior to being hired as a full-time staff member. Michael has also received focalized training in group therapy and firmly believes in the healing power of processing life events within a group context. As such, Michael’s therapeutic style employs psychodynamic, relational, systems, and cognitive-behavioral approaches, always aiming to highlight intersectional identities and the contexts in which folx have navigated prior to and within their university experiences. Some of his clinical interests include: Identity Formation, Relational Concerns (romantic, platonic, familial, etc.), Anxiety Disorders, Depression, Trauma, Sexual Assault, and Grief/Loss.

Steven Hulcher, Psy.D., Coordinator
Steve received his Psy.D. from Immaculata University and is a licensed psychologist in Pennsylvania. Prior to obtaining his doctorate, he practiced psychotherapy as a licensed clinical social worker having obtained his MSW from Boston College. His orientation is relational psychodynamic with the utilization of cognitive behavioral and strength based therapies. While practicing as a psychologist, he maintains a social work perspective in which context, environment, and multicultural factors play an important role in client functioning and coping. He has worked with adults, couples, and children and has experience with individual and group therapy in both inpatient and outpatient programs. His interests include the treatment of anxiety and mood disorders as well as the role that attachment plays in mental health. He also has worked extensively with men and has experience in treating sexual dysfunction. He believes that the most important element to successful therapy is the establishment of a collaborative and safe environment that allows for growth in self-understanding.
Brandon LaBarge, M.S., M.Ed., LPC, NCC, Assistant Coordinator
Brandon is a National Certified Counselor. He received his B.S. in Psychology and M.S. in Clinical Psychology from Northwestern State University. He also has a M.Ed. in Counselor Education from Georgia Southern University. Brandon spent the last several years in Georgia working with children, adolescents, and adults in a community mental health clinic. He has worked with diverse populations and his clinical interests include trauma, anxiety disorders, interpersonal relationships, and stress management. Brandon’s approach to therapy involves a collaborative and experiential approach with each client. His therapeutic style promotes openness, self-awareness, and engagement with the use of mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral, and positive psychology techniques. He aims to provide a space where clients can increase valued-living by better identifying obstacles and managing stress.
Campus Alcohol and Substance Awareness (CASA) Unit
Sharon T. Kotch, Psy.D., Coordinator
Sharon serves as the Campus Alcohol and Substance Awareness Coordinator (CASA-C) at TCS. She is a licensed clinical psychologist in NJ and in PA. Sharon earned a Bachelor's Degree in psychology from the University of Scranton, a Master's Degree in counseling psychology from Immaculata University and a Doctorate in clinical psychology from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at Ancora Psychiatric Hospital and at Rutgers University's Counseling Center, Camden, NJ. Sharon joined TCS in June of 2019. She has 29 years of experience in substance use disorder treatment and mental health counseling. She has worked in a variety of settings to include healthcare centers, group psychology practices, federal correctional institutions, nursing homes and college counseling centers. Her professional interests include substance use disorders, anxiety disorders, women's issues, supervision and training, as well as interpersonal relationships and family of origin issues. She utilizes Cognitive Behavior Therapy, in addition to mindfulness and motivational interviewing strategies in her work with students. Sharon believes in the resiliency of individuals and in helping students develop effective strategies leading them to improved emotional wellness and academic success.
Joshua Rutherford, Psy.D., Assistant Coordinator
Josh serves as the Assistant Coordinator of the Campus Alcohol and Substance Awareness Unit and recently joined TCS in 2018. He is a is a licensed clinical psychologist in Pennsylvania. Josh received his Psy.D. in Clinial Psychology from La Salle University and completed training at both the University of Memphis Student Health and Counseling Services as well as the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Counseling Center. While at Illinois, Josh worked on the Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) clinic team, providing assessment and counseling to students with substance abuse concerns. His areas of interest include individual and group counseling, mood disorders, anxiety, substance use, trauma, interpersonal relationships, stress management, training/supervision and working with LBGTQ+ community. He takes an integrative approach to counseling, incorporating aspects of interpersonal process, mindfulness, DBT, CBT, and ACT. Josh believes that one of the most important elements of success in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client and strives to create a safe and welcoming environment for his clients.

Sexual Assault Counseling and Education (SACE) Unit
Aisha Renée Moore, MSW, LCSW, Coordinator
Aisha is a licensed clinical social worker providing counseling services to students. She is also the Coordinator of the Sexual Assault Counseling and Education (SACE) Unit at Tuttleman Counseling Services. In this role, she provides specific case management and counseling services to survivors of sexual assault and to those experiencing domestic/dating violence, sexual harassment, and stalking. She earned a BS from Carnegie Mellon University and Master of Social Work degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Aisha has worked in a number of clinical settings including private agencies, community mental health, and college counseling centers. She has provided individual, family, and group therapy, as well as case management to children/youth, adolescents, adults, and families. Aisha’s clinical interests include grief and loss, trauma, relationship issues, sexual health, and the impact of violence.
Hillary Black, MSW, LCSW, Assistant Coordinator
Hillary is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and joined TCS in November of 2016. She serves as a counselor and Assistant Coordinator of the SACE unit. Hillary received her B.A. in Cultural Anthropology/Gender & Women’s Studies at the University of Vermont and her MSW from Simmons Graduate School of Social Work in Boston in 2013. Hillary has experience working in community mental health providing couples and family therapy and has worked at multiple university and college counseling services. After completing her master’s degree she went on to University of California, Berkeley as a Post-MSW fellow with a focus on supporting students around sexual assaults, alcohol and other drug use (AOD), managing medical conditions, and other mental health concerns. Hillary’s other clinical interest are spirituality, grief, LGBTQ folks, first-generation college students, and works from a multicultural perspective. Hillary is thrilled to be joining the Temple University community and honored to provide services to the students.
Part-time Staff
Wendy Chen, M.A., L.P.C.
Wendy is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a National Board certified counselor. She holds a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Arcadia University and a Bachelor’s in Psychology from LaSalle University. Wendy has received training in Ecosystemic Structural Family Therapy (ESFT) and Attachment, Regulation and Competency Framework (ARC). In her sessions, Wendy utilizes different therapeutic interventions according to her clients’ needs, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness. Wendy began her career working in a community mental health agency in Philadelphia. She worked with children and adults of all ages, providing individual, couples, and family therapy. Wendy went on to work as a school counselor serving young students in the Philadelphia area. Wendy has also worked in a private practice setting, where she found her passion in working with young adults.
Jessica DeMarchis, MSW, LCSW
Jessica is a licensed clinical social worker in both PA and NJ. She earned a BSW from Juniata College, MSW from Temple University, and is currently finishing her training as a yoga teacher. As a bilingual clinician, she has experience working in communities both locally and internationally, including countries like Mexico and Ecuador. Jessica is also a TF-CBT certified therapist, and a majority of her work has been with trauma survivors in partial cares, outpatient clinics and home based services. She also teaches at Temple University in their trauma certification program and speaks/writes about post traumatic growth and self-care. Jessica’s approach to therapy is person-centered, strengths based and integrative. She utilizes mindfulness based cognitive-behavioral therapy and works with individuals to achieve health, happiness, self-awareness and growth. In her role at TCS, she will provide individual therapy, therapeutic yoga and meditation classes for students. Her clinical interests include post traumatic growth, depression, anxiety and positive psychology.
Karen Libber Fishbein, MSW, LCSW
Karen is a licensed clinical social worker. She received her B.A. in Psychology from Pennsylvania State University and her MSW from the University of Pennsylvania. Karen has worked in school, agency, university, and medical settings. Her clinical interests include grief and loss, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, relationship issues, chronic illness, caregiver stress, and substance abuse. Karen takes on a client-centered, holistic approach and incorporates cognitive behavioral and solution-focused ideas into her work. She strives to provide a warm, safe environment to help clients as they go through their journey of self-understanding.
Kanjana Hartshorne, LCSW, RYT500, Reiki Master, CCFP
Kanjana is a licensed clinical social worker, yoga teacher, and yoga therapist. She received her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Pennsylvania. In her work with students, Kanjana utilizes an evidence-based blend of traditional Western psychotherapy (CBT, ACT) and Eastern Comprehensive Yoga Therapy (CYT). Kanjana’s mission is to empower each individual to build upon their existing strengths to move towards a positive path to mind, body, and spiritual wellness, whatever that is for them. By creating a safe and comfortable atmosphere she hopes to support her clients and give them the tools to make changes and grow into their true potential. In her role at TCS, Kanjana will provide individual psychotherapy, yoga therapy, and yoga and meditation both in 1-on-1 and group settings for a variety of concerns. Her clinical interests are anxiety, emerging identity, grief and loss, body image, healthy relationships/attachment, and chronic pain/illness.
Courtney L. Henry, Ph.D.
Courtney is a licensed clinical psychologist. She earned her doctorate degree from Utah State University in 2013, completing her internship at a university counseling center. She has provided therapy to clients in various settings but is excited to be working with college students again. She is particularly interested in mindfulness-based interventions and animal-assisted therapies, and has a registered therapy dog who helps people remember to be in the moment. Courtney coordinates the training program on assessment.
Demi LeLeux, M.A.
Demi is an art therapist and counselor, working under supervision to obtain her credentials and licensure in the state of PA. She holds a Master’s in Art Therapy and Counseling from Drexel University. In her work, she integrates knowledge and interventions from developmental, cognitive, behavioral and creative modalities. She practices from a strengths-based perspective, which acknowledges that people have the capacity within them to attain positive growth. She views the therapy space as a sanctuary, an open space to safely uncover and explore anything that may be going on in life. She has a passion for working with college students and is excited to be able to do so again.
Holly Sawyer, PhD, LPC, CAADC
Holly is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and a certified advanced alcohol and drug counselor (CAADC). She has worked in community health (residential, outpatient and methadone) substance abuse settings. Her clinical interests include anxiety disorders, depression, career exploration & transition, microaggressions/racism and substance abuse. Holly takes on a client-centered, collaborative, holistic approach. Holly utilizes therapeutic techniques based upon mindfulness, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and solution-focused therapy into her work. Holly believes in tailored treatment to the individual and their specific goals. Holly is passionate, dedicated and perceptive when sharing truths that need to be spoken in assisting individuals to improve their quality of life and be the best version of themselves. Holly supports individuals in identifying tools and coping skills to elicit and maintain change. Holly's kindness, candor and attentive listening skills aid her in creating strong therapeutic alliances. Holly earned a MS in Professional Counseling from Grand Canyon University and PhD in Higher Education from Trident University. She is a Course Developer and Associate Adjunct Professor in Drexel's University’s Master's of Addiction, Department of Counseling and Family Therapy.
Katelyn Sobon, M.Ed., LPC
Kate Sobon is a Licensed Professional Counselor who is passionate about assisting individuals with improving their quality of life and being the best version of themselves. Kate believes counseling is a collaborative process and she utilizes a client-centered and strength-based approach. She utilizes therapeutic techniques based upon cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), solution-focused therapy, and mindfulness. Kate supports individuals in identifying tools and coping skills to elicit change. Kate's compassion, honest, warmth, and candor aid her in creating strong therapeutic alliances. Kate earned a BA in Criminal Justice and M.Ed. in Counseling Psychology from Temple University. She is an Associate Adjunct Professor in Temple University’s College of Education. Kate was trained in Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) to treat Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. Kate has experience working with diverse populations and believes it is crucial to tailor treatment to the individual and their specific goals.
